How to Decorate When You Are Having a Baby
By Fran Sloan
They say having a baby changes everything and that is so very true. It does change everything but it is a good change. When you are expecting a baby there are several different things you need to do to get ready, including decorating your home. Decorating for your baby can be fun and it will get you a chance to plan on how you want to decorate and organize your home before the baby comes.

One of the things you can do is prepare for the safety of your baby. It's never too early to do this and it will save you a lot of time in the long run. When you bring your baby home for the first time, it may seem like it will be a very long time before the baby starts to crawl and get around but think again. Babies develop fast and you may be seeing them crawling at around six months of age. This age and milestone will come on very quickly and you will need to be ready because after that there is no stopping them.
One of the best ways to prepare for your home by decorating is to look around your home room by room and decide what things are hazards. For example, do you have glass end tables and coffee tables? Up until now these glass tables have not been a problem in fact you like how easy it is to clean them up and how bright they make your living room. But now they may cut your child if the glass gets cracked when they slam a toy down on it. Babies like to pull up using the furniture and tables and the glass tables may not be as sturdy.
Now might be a great time to think about carpeting if you don't have any yet. You will see plenty of boo-boos when your baby falls down learning how to crawl and walk, and this will happen alot. Carpeting may reduce the chance of any head injury if the baby was to fall backward.
It's never to soon to purchase safety outlet covers, cabinet locks and toilet locks. This is to protect other children who may be visiting your home as well as your own. Safety outlet covers need to go into every electrical outlet.
Most people will prepare for the nursery before the baby comes. Once you find out if your baby is a girl or a boy it makes decorating easier, although some people prefer to keep it neutral just in case the tests are wrong. Most people will decide to paint the walls a soft color to go along with the rest of the decor in the nursery. Make sure that the paint you choose is non toxic and especially made for nurseries. Make sure you install safety outlet covers in the nursery as well.
The furniture in the nursery should come with rounded corners so that it will be safe for your baby when they are up and moving around. You will need a crib, a changing table, and a rocking chair to start. You will spend countless hours in the rocking chair so you may also want to put a small television or radio in the nursery beside of the rocking chair. You can place a table beside of the rocking chair to keep a reading book.
It's not easy trying to remember everything but if you start early enough you will be able to decorate your home safely.

Another great idea for baby's room is to install some area rugs. A rug under the change table or near the bed is much easier to clean then carpeting. You can use a plain colored type of rug or opt for a baby design rug to fit in with the rest of the decor.
